Objectives, activities and results expected/achieved

The aim of project is to implement two complementary management platforms:

  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2017, ERP especially created for small and medium-sized businesses, to manage business processes and respond to their needs;
  • Pro-Batch Add-on, developed specifically for this industry, fully compatible with Microsoft Dynamics NAV which meets the specific needs of the Company’s various departments.

The Pro-Batch add-on is particularly applicable to the demanding procedures that the pharmaceutical company faces in logistics and batch management issues, due to the sensitivity and hazardous nature of some of the raw materials used and the safety and quality standards and procedures which it is required to obey. This solution enables full traceability and batch control, and efficiently manages all batch information, from the raw materials used to expiry dates and serial numbers e.g. costing of product production, detecting possible problems or delays in the supply chain for commodities and raw materials, effective management of returnable packaging, blanket order management and managing the costing of the raw materials to be able to buy them at the best possible price.

Objectives, activities and results expected/achieved

  • For this project, Edol intends to create a new production unit, whose parameters and specifications comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, and which will be equipped with the latest technology. The new unit will make it possible to design a new ophthalmic line, which will produce all the existing eye drops in the company’s portfolio, and advance the current state of art without the use of preservatives. This innovation is achieved through the OSD (Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser).
  • This system separates the sterile environment within the container from the external non-sterile environment, through the passage of air through membranes which filter the air as well as the solution. In this way, it will be possible to make eye drop formulations without preservatives.

In addition to the innovation associated with the production of preservative-free eye drops, this system is different from others because it allows the use of eye drops of different viscosity ranges, to form a consistent droplet size irrespective of the specific viscosity of the eye drops. The production of eye drops in the OSD bottles will provide product-level innovation, as quality will be enhanced and add a new feature to the eye drops already in the company’s portfolio.
